Individuals and groups who are interested in blending art and conservation while painting a rain barrel are encouraged to submit a design for the “Retain the Rain” Rain Barrel Art Challenge. A rain barrel is a container, placed at a downspout, which captures and stores roof runoff for outdoor uses. Those wishing to enter the Art Challenge must submit a design to the Pocono Arts Council by Friday, November 7, 2014. Twenty winners will receive a rain barrel to paint based on their submitted design, and the barrels will be on public display in the Boroughs of Delaware Water Gap and Mount Pocono from April through October 2015.

Design guidelines and entry forms can be found at www.mcconservation.org. Look for the blue “Retain the Rain” logo. The project is developed by the Monroe County Conservation District, the Pocono Arts Council, the Pocono Mountain Arts Council, the Brodhead Watershed Association, the Monroe Career and Technical Institute, the Borough of Delaware Water Gap, and the Borough of Mount Pocono. Financial and other support for this project is provided by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. (PACD) through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection under Section 319 of the Clean Water Act, administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
